Climate Solutions

Appstrax Technology recognizes that while our physical footprint across various rented office spaces is small, our digital operations contribute to energy consumption. A significant portion of this occurs through the hosting and cloud services we utilize for the business solutions we provide to clients globally.

We work with providers such as iPage, which reports offsetting its energy consumption with renewable wind energy. Furthermore, our use of Code Capsules means our underlying infrastructure is hosted on major global cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (via GKE), and Microsoft Azure. We understand that the energy efficiency and renewable energy commitments of these large-scale data center operators play a significant role in the overall climate impact of our digital services and, consequently, the business solutions we deliver to our clients.

We are mindful of this indirect impact and aim to utilize these services as efficiently as possible through optimized solution architecture and resource management, which also enhances the performance and value of the business solutions for our clients.

Our employees are located across various locations in South Africa and Europe, with many working from rented office spaces. This structure means we have limited direct control over the central energy infrastructure of these buildings. However, we are committed to responsible energy use within our premises, where feasible. We implement practices such as ensuring lights and equipment are switched off when not in use. We utilize air conditioning as needed to maintain comfortable and healthy working environments for our employees, which is essential for their well-being and their ability to deliver our business solutions, particularly considering local climate conditions. We aim to be mindful of our energy footprint within the constraints of our rented facilities.

We recognize that employee commuting contributes to our overall carbon footprint. Given the specific context of operating in Johannesburg, safety concerns and limitations with public transport options unfortunately mean that many employees based there rely on private vehicle transportation for their daily commute. To help mitigate the emissions associated with commuting, particularly in the Johannesburg context, Appstrax Technology supports flexible working arrangements, including offering employees at least one work-from-home day per week. This policy directly reduces commuting frequency and the associated environmental impact, supporting a focused team available to deliver business solutions. We remain mindful of commuting impacts across all our locations and will explore sustainable commuting alternatives should feasible and safe options become available in the future.

Waste and Packaging / Resource Consumption

Appstrax Technology is mindful of the resources we consume and the items we dispose of in our operations that support the delivery of our business solutions to clients globally. As a predominantly digital company with a small physical footprint across various rented office spaces, our direct contribution to traditional waste streams is limited.

Items generated or consumed in our offices across different locations include packaging associated with deliveries and other general consumables. The collection and primary disposal of these items, alongside the minimal paper we use internally across all locations, are typically managed through the building’s landlord services in each respective location.

Electronic waste (e-waste) from hardware upgrades is infrequent due to our practice of investing in durable equipment to support our business solutions. When hardware eventually reaches the end of its lifecycle in any of our locations, we are committed to exploring responsible disposal or recycling options available to us locally.

We continuously seek opportunities to minimize our consumption and manage the disposal of items thoughtfully where within our influence, recognizing that responsible resource use supports our efficient operation and delivery of high-quality business solutions.

As we operate from various rented office spaces, the overall management of the buildings’ water infrastructure, supply, and conservation efforts typically falls under the responsibility of the landlords in each respective location. While our direct control over building-level water stewardship initiatives is limited, we are mindful of our consumption in daily activities within our premises and recognize the importance of water conservation, particularly in the South African context and other regions where our employees are based, as part of responsible operations supporting our core business.
